In 2008, Schultz asked Gibbons to transform the supply chain of Starbucks. Gibbons had joined Starbucks in 2007 from ICI Americas Inc., where he had been executive vice president of the supply chain.
Once Gibbons took up the position, his first task was to assess whether the existing supply chain was serving the stores efficiently and to gauge the points where costs were being incurred.
